Georgian Textile: History Revived
Share
At Giovanni Morra, we believe that history is not just meant to be remembered,it’s meant to be lived. This philosophy led us to a landmark collaboration with TBC and the Art Palace of Georgia for the "Georgian Textile" project. This initiative was born from a shared desire to bridge the gap between centuries-old traditions and modern fashion, bringing forgotten national patterns back into daily life.
Through this partnership, we were granted access to rare historical archives, including medieval frescoes, royal embroidery, and 16th-17th century church murals. Motifs from the attire of historical figures like Queen Rusudan of Imereti and Giorgi II Dadiani served as the foundation for our collection of silk ties, scarves, and hoodies. Whether it’s the "Fiery Pheasant," "Deer’s Leap," or the "Angels" print, each pattern carries the soul of frescoes found in the Tsalenjikha, Khobi, and Martvili churches.
Working alongside TBC allowed us to transform national identity into a material expression. We aimed to take these "museum pieces" and turn them into something you can reach for every day. This collaboration isn't just about aesthetics; it’s about ensuring that Georgia’s cultural heritage remains vibrant, relevant, and a proud part of our contemporary style. By wearing these pieces, we aren't just wearing an accessory—we are carrying a story that has survived for centuries.
